Extraction 1/5: General Information
The extraction of cannabis concentrates plays an elementary role in the dabbing scene. This is because extracts are a rarity in many countries, and there are many variables that can turn good flower into bad concentrate. For example, the unknown extraction artist behind a product may not have removed solvents without leaving residue. Even though you may not understand the implications of such a grievance at the moment, the extraction process is a closed book with a high potential for error. You don't want to have to trust a stranger. In order to be able to guarantee themselves the best possible quality, many dabbing enthusiasts therefore take the extractor or the Rosin press themselves. So you have the entire process and thus also the finished cannabis extract from the beginning under control and know what's in it.
From the beginning strictly speaking also implies the own or at least controlled cultivation of the medicinal plants to be processed. Because clean, organically planted plants produce the brightest and therefore highest quality concentrates. If then the terpene content of the plants is right, nothing stands in the way of a tasty dabbing experience.
But back to the actual extraction of the concentrates. The goal with any type of extraction is to separate the resin found in the trichomes of the cannabis plants from the rest of the flower material. This is because other parts of the plant, apart from the small resin heads, do not contain any active ingredients and are inhaled when smoked to the detriment of the recipient's health. So one tries to produce a material what is very rich in active substances, for example CBD.
In this five-part guide to extraction, we want to give you comprehensive information about plant extraction. We introduce the different types of extraction and point out risks, advantages and disadvantages.
